Its An Original Tuban Tenun Gedog (Woven Two Color Thread Cloth), Handmade From Only the Best Hand Picked Kapok Lawa (Brown Cotton) Fibre Balls, Native Specific to Tuban, East Java. Hand Spun Onto Spools, Handwoven on a Primitive Teak Kemplongan.
The Batik Design Technique From Tuban is Then Used To Create This Scarce Batik Tenun Gedog Tuban, Which Has a Long History of Acculturation, With Diverse Patterns Influenced by a Variety of Cultures & is The Most Developed in Terms of Pattern, Technique & The Quality of Workmanship. The Technique Starts with Melting Bee Wax in a Small Metal Pot (Wajan) Over an Open Flame. The Design, Normally Dots or Lines, are Then Drawn With Charcoal Or Graphite On the Fabric, Which Is then Tacked Onto a Wooden Frame (Gawangan). A Spouted Tool Called a “Canting” Or a Copper Stamp a “Cap” is Used to Apply the Wax on the Fabric. The Applied Wax Resists Dyes & Therefore Allows the Artisan to Color Selectively by Soaking the Cloth in One Color, Removing the Wax with Boiling Water and Repeating, if Multiple Designs Or Colors are Desired. Batik Tenun Gedog Tuban is Done On Both Sides of the Fabric, Which Makes it More Unique & More Time Consuming.
The Woven Cloth Is Then Hand Dyed With Natural Organic Vegetable Bark From the Soga Tree & Indigo Leaves from the Indigo Plant. Usually Parts of the Cloth Have Already Been Dyed Dark Blue using Indigo, But the Colour Will Become Black After Soga Dyeing. A Color Seen as a Restful Emptiness Into Which Anything May Emerge & Disappear Once Again. It is Also Mysterious, Providing a Sense of Potential & Possibility.
Although the Designs are Expertly Laid Out & Done, None is Ever Exactly the Same, They all Absorb the Moment the Artisan Made Them – Whether they Pushed Hard or Soft Upon the Fabric, How the Vegetable Dye Came Out that Day & Even the Weather.

To avoid the warp yarn from getting torn or broken during weaving, the weaver strengthen the yarns with starch, rice-or potato flour. The result is a hardening of the fabric, but will get softer after using or washing a few times. Hand-washing is highly recommended. To Care: 1. To prevent future color bleeding, we suggest adding 2-3 table spoons of table salt in warm water for first time washing. 2. Wring the fabric gently. 3. Air Dry.
